PAT Testing Information
During weeks 7 -10, students in years 1-6 will be sitting the PAT-M (Progressive Achievement Test Mathematics) and PAT-R (Progressive Achievement Test Reading) assessments.
PAT testing is an online format composed of multiple-choice questions and will be conducted in individual classes by the class teacher using our school computers.
PAT assessments are an important diagnostic tool used by teachers to ascertain which learning concepts have been mastered and what content requires further practice, both at a whole class and individual student level. The data gained from this testing is one of many strategies that teachers use to inform next steps for learning and overall grade level achievement.
We encourage students to approach this like any other learning opportunity and work to their full potential. If you have any questions about the PAT assessments, please contact a member of the school’s leadership team or your child’s class teacher.
National Day of Action Against Bullying & Violence
On Thursday 17th August, our school recognised the National Day of Action Against Bullying & Violence. Students and staff wore orange and everyone participated in a workshop presented by Bully Zero. The presenter worked with students to explain how we recognise bullying behaviours, what we can all do to help stop bullying, how we can be an Upstander, and recognising that we are all different. One of the main ideas was how important it is to understand that we all have the right to be treated fairly but we also have the responsibility to treat others fairly.
Important learning that we will continue to build upon as a whole school.
SAPSASA
We have had a busy SAPSASA calendar over the past 4 weeks with students representing us in Girls and Boys Basketball, Athletics and Boys Soccer.
Our basketball teams persisted throughout the competition to develop their skills and teamwork. Congratulations to the girls who came 2nd in their competition group.
At athletics, a special congratulations goes to Lexi for placing 1st in 100m, 200m and discus and to Noah for his 2nd in discus. Every competitor tried really hard with some PBs being achieved.
Our boys soccer team played really well in every game, encouraging each other and showing great sportsmanship. They were lucky enough to come away with the winners trophy for the second year in a row. Congratulations boys.
We also congratulate Noah, Tex and Samanda who were selected to represent our district in SAPSASA soccer. They played many games across 3 days and were great ambassadors for Para Vista PS.
A special thank you to the teachers and SSOs who coached and helped with our teams and to parents who supported them at their competitions. These opportunities wouldn't be possible without all of this commitment.
Book Week 2023
Our Book Week Parade was fantastic last week and it was great to see so many students and teachers dressing up as their favourite book character or a character from within the theme. Lots of staff went with the current popularity of Barbie and dressed as different Barbie and Ken characters from the books. Our Library Leaders also conducted some playtime activities for students with a Book Week theme which were really well received. We wonder how many of the seeds the students planted will grow into beautiful sunflowers.
This week all students attended a performance, "Way Too Cool" , which used some of the shortlisted books as the basis of their performance. It was really interactive and all students enjoyed watching. The underlying theme about kindness and friendship related to all of the current learning students are doing around showing respect and not tolerating bullying.
