Careers at MSCW

Course and subject selection 2024

Many will already be aware, that, when it comes to Course and Subject Selection for 2024, we are doing things a little differently this year.

Students in Year 8 – 11 participated in course information session on Tuesday 20 June. Students were encouraged to use the MSCW Course Guide (available on Simon) and a Traffic Light Worksheet to assist with decision-making.

Initial Subject Selection Preferences were due 19 July.

We now move into the next step of the process – Final Subject Selection Preferences which involves the following for each year level:

  • Year 8 – log into web preferences and redo your elective selections. You and your parents will be asked by web preferences to digitally sign your final preferences. You may also wish to print a copy for your records. There is no need to provide a copy to the College.
  • Year 9 – attend your scheduled Subject Selection Interview on Wednesday 2 or Thursday 3 of August to submit your final selections.
  • Year 10 – attend your scheduled Subject Selection Interview on Monday 7 or Wednesday 9 of August to submit your final selections.
  • Year 11 – log into web preferences and redo your elective selections. You and your parents will be asked by web preferences to digitally sign your final preferences. You may also wish to print a copy for your records. There is no need to provide a copy to the College.

Other key events

  • Year 12s VTAC Briefing 3 August with Lunchtime help sessions on Thursday 3 August and 9 August
  • Year 12s applying for tertiary studies in Victoria – 31 July – 28 September
  • Year 10 Vocational Learning Program SWL – 2 to 16 October.
  • Year 9 Morrisby Interviews will recommence when time permits – we will email relevant Year 9s advising scheduled date and time and this information is also put on Simon notices.
  • Individual student appointments continue and we are now able to offer these Monday – Friday – students can make these via the link on Simon using their school email and password.

Year 9 Career Day, including Job Skills Expo

On Tuesday 25 July, Year 9 students participated in the Year 9 Careers Day. The aim was to provide students with ample opportunity to investigate, research and make decisions about their 2024 program and pathways beyond. During this day Year 9 students, guided by a Careers staff member revisited Morrisby, created an account with career resource Study Work Grow, undertook preparation for and then attend the Job Skills Expo event held at Lardner Park and revisited their 2024 course and subject selections.
