Wakakirri Coming Soon!

The 4-6 students have been practising hard for our Wakakirri performance on August 15th. Wakakirri is a story through dance competition that encourages students to engage in the Arts and explore their creativity.

This year our story is titled Giraffe's Journey and explores the classic story of Giraffe's cant dance, with a St Joseph's emotional toolkit twist. There are still some tickets available if you have not purchased yours y. Students will also perform their Wakairri dance at our school concert in November. A note will go home on Operoo today with more details about our dress rehearsal and performance night.

STEM Learning - Kids in Space!

STEM skills and knowledge are important for all stages of our learning, jobs and everyday lives. STEM education covers the specific knowledge and skills found in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines. It also covers the interrelationship between these areas, allowing learning to go deeper and connect to the world we live in.

At St Joseph's we offer students a number of opportunities to engage in S.T.E.M learning where they are supported to discover and create new understandings about their world and beyond. This year we were fortunate to be awarded a grant through the Andy Thomas Space Foundation in partnership with the Australian Space Agency.

This grant allowed our 5/6 students to take part in an Australian-first, Kids in Space national program. This innovative program allowed our students to engage with the nation’s growing space ecosystem. As part of the grant, we received a 3D printer, along with access to custom-designed, space-themed resources. Students learned about the many physical, social, and emotional challenges astronauts face when going to space. With this in mind, they explored ways to improve the health and wellbeing of astronauts.

Twelve of our students also had the opportunity to present their ideas to other schools, and judges from MACS and the Australian Space Agency. Well done to all of our students for the amazing presentations and their fantastic ideas. Thank you to Miss Gledhill, Mrs Dunn, Miss Jackson, Miss Willaims, and Mr Hewitt, who guided them through their inquiry and supported them on the day.

If you would like to see some of our learning, students will be presenting their projects to the school at the end of the term during their inquiry showcase.
