Mathematics Talk: Alumnae

On Friday 23 of June, the last day of term 2, I was given the opportunity to speak to the two Year 11 Methods classes about pursuing maths beyond Year 12. As a past Academy student, I completed methods in Year 11 and Year 12 and have gone on to study mathematics at Melbourne Uni. I felt it was important to convey the significance of maths to the students and hopefully show them the possibilities maths can offer.

In my talk with them, I spoke about the different career opportunities which come from studying maths and how important it is for anyone wanting to pursue science. I also discussed the different majors offered by universities and my own personal experience as someone majoring in pure mathematics - the study of abstract mathematical concepts.

I felt very honoured to be able to speak to the young women at Academy and convey my passion for mathematics and its importance. I can only hope my words inspired some.

The Big day In: The Capitol, RMIT University

On 13 July, some of our senior students were excited to participant in the event called BiG Day In Melbourne. Students had the opportunity to listen to the presenters from various organizations, such as Adobe, Australian Signals Directorate, Australian Space Agency, Westpac, etc. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about where a STEM career can take them.
