Dear Members of the Academy Community,

As usual we have experienced a busy start to Term 3.  The subject selection process is well in place and we were delighted with the number of parents who were online for the VCE subject selection evening on 20 July.

I know you as parents will work very closely with your daughters as they navigate this important period.

Last week saw a very successful inaugural cultural day and already the conversation is focusing on making this day an annual event.  The African drummers were a great success with the vast majority of staff and students gathering in the Dillon Centre to listen to them.

It was pleasing also to see so many students in their national costume. Congratulations to our Senior Student leadership team on the organisation of this day.

Mr Mark Hyland, Ms Catherine Glenister, Ms Karen Fogarty & I have just returned to the College following the 3 day Young Mercy Leaders Australian Pilgrimage.

It was wonderful that so many Mercy schools accepted the invitation to participate in the Pilgrimage.  Please see below my article about our time as Pilgrims.

Today we welcomed the Principal, Mr Morikawa and the Physics teacher, An-Chan from Nishiyama High School, our sister school in Japan.  We are so pleased that post COVID our relationship has resumed and that our sister school arrangement is as strong as ever.  We look forward to welcoming staff and students from Nishiyama High school to the Academy in March 2024.

Likewise we have also rekindled our relationship with our school in Imperia, Italy and we are anticipating a study tour to Italy in September 2024.  More details are provided later in this newsletter.

And, finally, a reminder that next Wednesday 2 August, Paul Dillon will be coming to the College to address Years 10 – 12 students and present to parents at 7pm that evening.

On Thursday 3 August the Performing Arts concert will take place and families are warmly invited to this important event.

Every blessing,

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.   Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”  Philippians 2:3-4

What is a Pilgrimage?

A pilgrimage is a ritual journey,

with a hallowed purpose.

Every step along the way has meaning.

The pilgrim knows that life giving challenges

will emerge.

A pilgrimage is not a vacation;

it is a transformational journey during which significant change takes place.

New insights are given.

Deeper understanding is attained.

New and old places in the heart are visited.

Blessings are received and healing takes place.

On return from the pilgrimage,

life is seen with different eyes.

Nothing will ever be quite the same again.
