Upcoming Celebrations

This time of year is always very busy with celebrations that the school likes to involve the students in; National Science Week and Book Week.

We try to adjust the way in which we engage with these celebrations so as to not overwhelm families with organisational information nor dominate the learning time throughout the week. Please have a read of the information below to assist in understanding the celebrations that are coming up.

Science Week

Date: 12th -20th August

The school theme for National Science Week in 2023 is Innovation: Powering Future Industries. The theme incorporates the advancement in technology in all industries, especially using artificial intelligence (AI).

The curriculum focus of the theme is on:

  • Science as a Human Endeavour
  • Chemical Sciences
  • Physical Sciences
  • Earth and Space Sciences, and
  • Biological Sciences.

Along with the Sustainability cross-curriculum priority, it is versatile and accessible to all students and teachers.

Students will be involved in a number of classroom based activities throughout the week that help students understand the value of science and how important scientific principles and processes underpin a lot of what we do in everyday life.

In addition, we will be celebrating with activities in STEM classes for students to take part in.

2023 Book Week

Date: 19th – 25th August

Book week is fast approaching, and we are looking towards a fun and engaging week full of activities and learning. This year’s theme is ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’.

Students will be involved in many learning opportunities in their classrooms as well as various optional lunch time activities throughout the week. We have decided that we will not have a dress up day this year, as we have a dress up day planned for our 150th celebrations on September 1st, and we are mindful of not asking too much of our parents.

Below is a link to this year’s Children’s Book Council of Australia shortlist winners. We have been lucky enough to purchase a range of these books for our school library and look forward to sharing these with the students in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more Book Week information in the coming weeks.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

Keep up the great work with your participation in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge everyone and don’t forget to write a book review to share with others as well.

Every student who completes the challenge will receive a certificate at the end of the Challenge. The Challenge ends on September 8th, which is 38 days away, so keep up the reading!
