Senior House Athletics Day

Well, it began with sunshine and then some dark clouds came across but, despite the rain delay, our Senior students had a great time participating in various track and field events on Tuesday at Yarra Ranges Athletics Track.  Students showed resilience and patience throughout the day, as well as encouraging their teammates to try their best.  We look forward to sharing overall results in due course, after the Middles participate in their Athletics Carnival today.

We would like to thank all staff, parent helpers and Year 9 students from Mount Lilydale Mercy College, who kindly offered their time to assist in running the event.

Results from the Carnivals will assist in the process of selecting a squad to attend District Athletics on Thursday 31st August (week 8). Further information will be communicated via Compass, once our team has been chosen.

State Cross Country

Congratulations to Isla in SRT, who represented CHPS at the State Cross Country event last week out at Yarra Glen Racecourse. Isla finished 15th in her age group, which is a fantastic achievement at an elite level. Well done Isla!

SCHOLASTIC BOOKCLUB

Today everyone should receive a Scholastic Book Club brochure. We only send out Scholastic brochures twice a year – once in Term 3 and again early in Term 4. If you don’t receive yours there will be limited spares available from the Library, or you can just go online to https://www.scholastic.com.au/book-club/book-club-parents/ to view Brochure 5 and place your order.

Scholastic are giving away free books in Issue 5.

1 free book when you spend $30, 2 books when you spend $50 or 3 books when you spend $70. This offer is available only if you order through LOOP and only on your FIRST eligible transaction on Issue 5.  If you are using the LOOP app, you will need to make sure that you have upgraded to the latest version.  If you choose the LOOP option (explained on the order form) you order your child’s individual items and pay for them.  No paperwork needs to be sent to the school.  Your order will be received with the school’s orders and will be delivered to your child’s classroom, along with the orders of the other students.  This is the only way to pay by credit card.

Scholastic have also advised me that there is a new feature in the catalogue,  BooksPlus, to make browsing even more enjoyable.  Families can scan the QR code on featured titles for additional content including sneak peeks inside the books, book trailers and much more.

The orders are due back by Wednesday 26th July.  If you try to put through a late order once the school has closed the orders you will be given the option to pay postage and have it sent directly to your home address.

Cash orders are sent to the school. No orders are to go to the Library or class teachers – they are to go directly to the office.  Please ensure that these orders have Name and Class on both the order form and the envelope.  If you want orders as gifts just put your name and a phone number on the order form and mark it clearly as a gift.  There is also a ‘Gift’ option if you pay by credit card, (however this is outside my control if it comes back from Scholastic with your child’s name on it.  I don’t think this has ever happened).

We will contact you when they arrive at school and hold them at the office for you to collect.  We do earn valuable points for every purchase made which are used for new Library books.

Your support is greatly appreciated.

Environment & Sustainability News

Many of you may have noticed the work being done on the north entry to the school at Yarrunga.  Our native grasslands project was begun with a grant from Landcare Australia and has been supported by our School Council and Leadership. To celebrate the coming National Tree Day, we are inviting you to come down on Sunday July 30th and contribute to the next phase of planting. Bring some gloves, maybe a hand trowel or rake and put a plant in the ground with us.  We will be here from 12pm to 2pm and hope you get a chance to come by.

If you have any inquiries please contact Mr Crook at crook.steve@croydonhills.vic.edu.au
