Science Week

Science Week Competition

Science Week will be held in week 10 this year at GPS. This year’s theme is INNOVATION.

Innovation is all about coming up with new ideas or improving old ones. Anyone can innovate, people in all organisations innovate when they find better ways of doing things. Innovation can also mean creatively solving a complex problem.

Australia has a proud history of innovation, from creating the first pacemaker, the antibiotic penicillin, Wi-Fi technology, and even the software used by Google Maps. So, what better way to inspire innovation in the young minds at GPS, than a competition where students can explore innovations made by Australians, or think outside the box to solve a problem using innovation themselves.

Last week, students were informed of the competition and will have until Monday 25th September (week 10) to hand in their submissions.  If students wish to participate in the competition, they can present their ideas using a poster or small model. Please see the below flyer for further details.

If you have any questions regarding the competition, please email Alisha Schmidt alisha.schmidt6@schools.sa.edu.au

The Silly Scientist Incursion

This term we have booked The Silly Scientist for our school’s science incursion. It is an interactive performance that aims to promote positive attitudes to participating in science-based activities.

During the performance, the presenters demonstrate fun and exciting science activities from the Science Understanding Strands of the F-10 Australian Curriculum Science including; biological sciences, chemical sciences, earth and space sciences and physical sciences. The Silly Scientist Show also aims to foster in children an excitement for learning about science.

Children will view a performance designed to entertain students with comedy and singing, whilst highlighting many aspects of science. With a unique blend of science, the arts, and a few magic tricks and illusions thrown in, The Silly Scientist Show is an engaging and educational experience for the students.

The performance runs for approx 55 minutes and is suitable for primary-aged students F-6.

The Silly Scientist will be performing week 10 on Monday 25th September 2023, at Greenwith Primary School.
