Mr Andrew Monk, Director of Boarding
It was with great pleasure to invite and host Mr. David Thornton to our formal dinner on Wednesday night. A respected member of our Board and a highly accomplished businessman, David presented an insightful reflection upon his time as a student at Ther College, and how his education supported his endeavours as an engineer.
Mr. Thornton's wealth of experience and advice profoundly influences boarders’ aspirations and future pursuits. I was pleased invite our Senior Years students to attend and those that did found David's presentation insightful and useful in their engineering pathways. The formal dinners, along with its educational value, serve as a platform for our boarders to refine their etiquette, hone their listening skills, and actively engage with our speakers during or after their presentation. As usual, we have recorded the formal dinner presentation and this is available on our podcast channel - click here to listen.
Introducing Mr David Thornton
David grew up in Penshurst. After graduating from The College, he went on to study Mechanical Engineering and he is now the Managing Director of Thornton Engineering Australia Pty Ltd. David’s father founded the business in 1975 as a Penshurst based engineering workshop servicing rural industries. Since moving the business to Geelong in 2000, it has grown to be a market leader in structural steel, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, heavy wall pipe, stress relieving and heavy plate fabrication. The company supplies nationally and internationally to some of Australia’s largest companies and employs over 180 staff, including 15 full time staff at the original workshop in Penshurst.

Have you ever considered casual boarding? With our after-school programs in full swing and our day school students taking up multiple opportunities throughout the week, our Boarding Houses are a great option for an evening or two.
When a casual boarder finishes their after-school commitment, they are picked up by our driver and brought back to the Boarding House. Here they enjoy dinner, academic assistance, and a warm and comfortable bed for the night, with breakfast and lunch the following day. Casual boarding is becoming a popular choice for busy families.
If you would like to trial boarding, experience the benefits of casual boarding or simply enquire about boarding in general, please do not hesitate to contact Susie Holcombe or myself.
