Opportunity And Participation

I strongly believe one of the many points of difference at The College is our ability to allow all students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities. At the recent Hamilton Eisteddfod and Hoop Time basketball tournaments, we were the only local school to send all our students. At the Eisteddfod, Prep to Year 6 students had the opportunity to sing on stage, as part of choirs. In the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Hoop Time competitions, students with no basketball experience, and those who have played squad, were combined in teams for the day. Sometimes it is not all about winning, but simply taking part and learning whilst enjoying the experience.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Last week, all Junior School parents should have received an email outlining a permanent change in the way we take bookings for Parent/Teacher Interviews. We have moved to an online format via our learning management system (LMS) - SIMON. Parents can access the booking platform using their PAM (Parental Access Module) account. Parent/Teacher Interviews will be conducted on August 1st and 2nd. Parents can book 15-minute interviews with all class teachers Prep to Year Six. The focus of the interviews will be the Semester One reports. Please ensure you have read over this document prior to the interviews. Both in person and online/phone options are available. Parents who attend a Student Support Group (SSG) meeting on Friday do not need to book a second interview.

Nanjing Qinhuai Central Primary School Tour

It has been wonderful to welcome some visiting students from China into our classrooms. The students have been spending the week in the Year 2, 3 and 4 classrooms. Xiaoqi, Yiqian, Xinyan, Zirui, Jingyu, Sula, Shurong, Yuhang and Sinzhu have been excellent ambassadors for their school and country. Hamilton must appear very far removed from their hometown. Nanjing is a city of 9.6 million people and lies on the Yangtze River, around 300 km from Shanghai. Their school has 1500 students.

WEEK 2 ASSEMBLY

The following students were awarded ‘Star Student’ awards at this week’s Assembly.

Piccino:

Jimmy Lyons for creating his own imaginative play at Bush Kinder.
Huw Brown for having a very settled first week back and using his imagination to make a bird nest at Bush Kinder.

Prep: Eadie Tigges for always showing great focus when working independently and presenting extremely neat work.

Year 1: Evie Pickford for careful segmenting and blending when decoding new words. Great focus and progress!

Year 2: Shriaan Golwala for excellent problem solving and explaining his strategies to the class during Mega Minds.

Year 3: Harry Diprose for the thought and effort he puts into his classwork and the contributions he makes during discussions.

Year 4: Scarlett Hawker for her participation and enthusiasm to learn a new sporting game at Hoop Time.

Year 6: Yolie O’Sullivan for displaying excellent leadership both in and out of the classroom.

Year 6: Jimmy Dyer for showing excellent sportsmanship at Hoop Time

Year 6: Reian Patel for showing excellent sportsmanship at Hoop Time.

Hockey

Division 5 Tigers went down 6-0 to a strong Coleraine Maroon. Best on ground for Tigers was Henry Bufton.

Division 5 Black Panthers had a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Demons. Lachlan Pickford scored the goal for Black Panthers. Best on ground was Chelsea Pickford.

Division 4 Foxes had a strong 4-2 win over Coleraine. Goal scorers were Finn Hawthorne, Kirav Patel, Freddie Milne and Oscar Hawthorne.

Division 4 Wolves went down 5-2 to Demons. Whilst on the wrong side of the score, Wolves played very well and certainly took the game to Demons. Goal scorers were Max Cameron and Henry Horne.

Congratulations to the College Boys’ and Girls’ Hockey 7s teams who both progressed to the Greater Western Region finals on 11 August after wins at the Hamilton Hockey 7s tournament. The girls won their Grand Final 3-0 over Good Shepherd and the boys had a 3-1 win over Dunkeld. Thanks to Heath Templeton, Julie Templeton and Doug Cameron for their coaching and managing on the day.

Best of luck to Year 5 student Evie Templeton who will travel to Hobart next week to compete in the School Sport Australia Hockey Championships.

Junior School sports

School sport has certainly hit the ground running this term! So far our Junior School students have participated in Hoop Time, Hockey 7s and Netball Victoria’s Primary Championships Day.

All of our Year 3-6 students played in various Hoop Time teams. This is always a really fun day out for those who play basketball regularly as well as for those students who haven’t played competitively before. Many thanks to Mrs Milich, Miss See, Sara Dyer, Katie Pye, Tessa Ingram, Eve Greener, Stella Reid, Julie Templeton, Lowanne O’Brien, Carla Mayfield, Jock Barrie, Mrs Robertson, Mrs Covill, Felicity Satchell, Susan Richards and Freya Hawker who all coached, scored and team managed our students on the day. Particular congratulations to our “All Star” Girls’ team who were runners up in a very exciting Grand Final during the senior day.

The College teams had a wonderful day at the Hockey 7's compettion last week and both boys' and girls' teams are progressing to the Greater Western Region finals on 11 August. Thanks to Heath Templeton, Julie Templeton and Doug Cameron for their coaching and managing on the day.

Yesterday, our Year 5-6 representative netball team whizzed through their draw at a sunny Pedrina Park, winning all of their seven games. They now progress to the Netball Victoria Primary Finals Day to be held at the State Netball/Hockey Centre on 31 August. We wish Yolanda O’Sullivan, Elsie Brown, Violet Lynch, Sophie Satchell, Evie Templeton, Imogen Johns, Emma Milne, Grace O’Sullivan and Ruby Price along with their coach Mrs Julie Templeton and manager Mrs Felicity Satchell all the very best of luck on this day. We can’t wait to hear how you go!

Coming up

A reminder that the Year 5-6 AFL 9s day will be held on Friday 1 September, all Year 5-6 students will be entered into this event, details will be posted in an Operoo over the coming weeks. Also, the HDSA Primary Golf Championships will be held on Friday 8 September at the Parklands Golf Course, students may opt into this event if they wish, details will be sent home with interested students soon.
