From the Principal

Mr Michael Horne

While you may have heard of some behaviour that was less than acceptable, and totally outside the usual character of our students, the Year 10 Central Australia trip, which returned late last week has been the source of many stories of adventure, new experiences and personal growth. It has been gratifying to hear of the challenges students faced and overcame, and of the significant levels of learning that come from a program like this.

Similarly, this week’s visit of a group of students from Nanjing Qinhuai Central Primary School, focused at the Junior School, has led to a wonderful exchange of experiences, culture and language for all of those involved. My thanks to Eric Gong and to all of the staff and students who greeted and looked after our guests.

Opportunities for learning and cultural exchange outside of the classroom have long been important at our school, and I am happy to confirm that as part of the Year 9 Experience for 2024, our current Year 8 students will be embarking on a three-week trip to Vietnam in September. The program will take students through Hanoi, Mai Chau, and to the ethnic minority villages around Hang Kia. In Noi Ba, students will complete three days of service learning, giving back to a local school in need of assistance. Students will then trek through remote villages, before travelling to Ha Long Bay, Hue, Hoi An and finishing in Ho Chi Minh City. It will be a wonderful program and will be the culminating challenge of the broader Year 9 Experience. The program details will be covered in full at the upcoming Explore Information Night in late August.
