New Pianos to Benefit Music at MAG

It has been an exciting week with the delivery of not one, but two pianos!

We are thrilled to have two new pianos that will greatly benefit our music programs including:

  • A Yamaha U1J upright piano
  • A Samick grand piano

The purchase of a new Yamaha U1J piano has been possible thanks to a generous $2,000 grant from Murray River Council’s Community Grants program. The piano has been placed in JS17, to be used mostly within our co-curricular music tuition program.

The pre-loved Samick grand piano has been very generously donated by Christ Church Echuca and has been placed in our Secondary Music classroom.

Both pianos will be well-utilised for the purposes of tuition, rehearsals, assessments and performances.

The pianos will provide many benefits including:

• Access to a piano for curricular elective music students in Years 9 – 12, allowing these    students to achieve better outcomes for any performance assessment tasks

• Use in co-curricular music rehearsals and practices, including for individuals and duets    or small ensembles

• More performance opportunities including lunchtime concerts and recitals for soloists  and ensembles

• Opportunities to provide piano accompaniment for our ensembles, and individual    instruments that benefit from piano accompaniment

• Greater flexibility within the music timetable allowing more students to participate

• The opportunity to facilitate external co-curricular music examinations (AMEB / ANZCA)

• The opportunity to facilitate external curricular examinations such as HSC music

• Consolidating a strong co-curricular and curricular music program

• Ensuring that a greater number of students have access to a piano to enhance their  learning opportunities, whether through participation in our co-curricular or curricular  music programs

• Providing access to quality pianos through participating in our music program (curricular  and co-curricular)

• Providing more opportunities for student music performances

• Promoting a positive music image that is engaging for students, the School and the  wider community

We look forward to the many opportunities afforded to our School community by the addition of these pianos.
