Mentone Station Renovation

Over the course of this year, the Senior VCAL students have visited the Tower to document the changes happening. We thought the College community might like to see what all of that building and noise looks like from above. You should see some changes which have taken place in the pictures, mostly taken by Eliza Van Den Broek.

The car park opposite Kilbreda has now been turned into the new Mentone station complex, with the steps leading up to it straight opposite Kilbreda’s front door.

The roundabout on Balcombe Road has been removed and has been replaced by an intersection with traffic lights.

The old station can be seen in the photos. We believe that it's going to be used as a museum and we also believe that there will be old photos and stories of the history of Mentone.

In the photo, you can see the red reinforcement pipes holding up the walls of the tunnel. We believe that the new car park, a multi-storey complex, will be on Balcombe Road opposite 'The Corner Store'. Traffic on Warrigal Road was finally eased on 23 June when Balcombe Road was opened to traffic again.

Since our return from holidays, the ramps leading to the mostly complete station building have been finished, with solar panels visible on the roof. The platforms and tracks have been finished over the holidays and on Thursday 16 July, the finishing touches were made to the tiling on the steps.

On Monday 20 July, our last photos were taken. The first train carrying passengers came through at 12:21am to Frankston. In the last photos you can see the tiles finished on the steps and travellers arriving. There are still some things being done, such as the garden areas outside and finishing touches to the kiosk. As our photos show, the platforms and entry are totally complete.
