VCAL – Intermediate

COVID -19 has presented many challenges this year. Returning to school was a little nerve-wracking and strange; however, seeing my friends enabled me to feel happy and joyful.

Earlier this term, we formed a partnership with the Living Justice group. In class, one of the projects we worked on was creating an activity booklet for the Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project (BASP). Our aim was to provide a personalised book for refugee children, so each child has something of their own. This may help them to feel welcome in this country.

My book was a story about a koala who invited his Australian animal friends to come and see his new Eucalyptus tree. I am sure the little children will enjoy colouring in the pictures of some of the animals that they may see in Australia.

I think it is important for people to show compassion for those who are less fortunate that themselves.

I have enjoyed creating a personalised picture story book for a refugee child. Hopefully, this child will feel special as the book is my gift to them. Perhaps it may help them to feel more of a sense of belonging in Australia.

I cannot imagine the trauma and heartbreak experienced by refugees around the world. I believe we all need to show more love, kindness and respect.

When we returned to school this term, there were many challenges due to COVID-19. Each Year 12 student needed to consider how this pandemic had impacted their studies. We had to re-think and re-design our individual projects to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines.

We are currently planning, creating, consolidating and finalising various components of our projects. Next term, from 10 August onwards, each student will be conducting a 45-minute group session, in which they will lead the class in an activity related to their individual project.  We have been utilising our organisation skills and learning styles to develop each stage of our projects.

Whilst presenting to a group will be challenging, it provides an opportunity for each of us to display our leadership skills in order to successful achieve course outcomes.
