Visual Communication Design

Unit 1: Area of Study 3  -

Visual Communication Design in context

In this unit of study the students explored how visual communication has been influenced by past and contemporary practices and by social and cultural factors.

The students began by studying the general history of the poster design and comparing it to Polish and contemporary designers such as the American contemporary street artist, Shepard Fairey.

The students also looked at the posters’ significance to social, political and cultural factors that influenced design, which then they represented as a time line.

Through the application of the design process, clearly inspired by the original selected poster, they finally re-designed the poster to suit the contemporary target market.

The final designs were then completed in an Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator program.
