Course Description 

Visual Arts provides rich opportunities for students to engage in the making and studying of art.  It builds an understanding of the role of art in all forms of media, both in the contemporary and historical world, and enables students to represent their ideas and interests in artworks.

Students will investigate Visual Arts through practical and theory tasks, with the emphasis being placed on practical making.

Future career opportunities in the area of Visual Arts are many and varied, for example Architects, Illustrators, Art Consultants, Art Gallery Directors, Cartoonists, Landscape Designers, Photographers, Journalists and Fashion Designers.

 

What will students learn about?

Students will learn how to represent their ideas and interests in their artworks by referencing contemporary trends in the arts and how artists including painters, sculptors, architects, designers, photographers, ceramists and digital artists make artworks.

Students will have the opportunity to deepen their practical skills and knowledge of art by:-

  • Excursions to local and city Art Galleries
  • Attend tailored art workshops
  • Guest Artists presentations
  • Exhibitions of own artwork - College library and the annual ‘Creative Showcase’
  • Art & Photography Competitions - locally and nationally.

What will students learn to do?

Students learn a variety of skills to create unique artworks, using a range of materials and techniques in 2 Dimensional, 3 Dimensional and 4 Dimensional forms, including traditional and contemporary forms such as:-

            * Painting

            * Ceramics (Clay)

            * Printing

            * Mixed Media

            * Sculpture

            * Drawing

            * Digital 

  • Document their ideas for their artworks in their own personal Visual Arts Process Diary.
