Course Description
Outdoor Education is a College developed subject which centres around leadership, participation and education in the outdoors and personal development in resilience, teamwork and time management.
During their time in Outdoor Education, students will complete their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award in Year Nine and their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award In Year Ten. There is the possibility of completing the Gold Award in Year Eleven. It is a Duke of Edinburgh requirement that students complete a practice and qualifying journey for each award. Some of the activities undertaken in OED include hiking, caving, abseiling and kayaking.
Over the two year course, students will also gain their Food Handling and Hygiene qualification and their Barista qualification through online training and volunteering in the OED Kitchen.
This elective is suitable and encouraged for all students who are willing to step outside of their comfort zone and become an active member in the community.

What will students learn about?
Outdoor Education is about challenging students to better themselves, learn about others, be active citizens and to apply the OED ethos in everything they do.
The core ethos which looks at perseverance, determination, physical effort, social connection and problem solving are the foundations for each of the key topics students learn about over the two years including:
