Journalism - Media Arts 

Course Description

Students will study both print and electronic media, and will acquire the skills and means to produce their own publications and broadcasts.

 

What will students learn about?

In this course students will develop creative and critical thinking, exploring perspectives in media as both producers and consumers. They will explore the use of text, visuals and sound to express ideas, concepts and stories for different audiences.

Students will learn the skills and principles of print media, gaining experience in gather- ing, processing and disseminating information to the school community and beyond. Students will also examine the style and characteristics of electronic media. They will gain understanding and experience of radio, television and internet journalism.

 

What will students learn to do?

Students will engage with various forms and conventions, styles and technologies as they develop their skills in the areas of interviewing, writing in journalistic style, editing and layout. They will also create media projects in areas of interest, including photo- journalism, podcasting, blogging and film making.

 

In this course students will develop the reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing and representing skills needed to present their own work in a variety of print publications, including TRAC Record (the College’s annual publication), and broadcast productions.

Students will develop collaborative skills by working together in teams, to share ideas, file reports and meet production deadlines.
