Year 6 Report

Term 2... and that's a wrap!

I cannot believe that we have hit our final week of Term 2 already!!  I am extremely proud of how the Year 6 students have tackled such a difficult term. Your dedication, determination and resilience has been outstanding.  You should all be so proud of how you were able to accept and adapt to remote learning.  It was definitely a new experience for us all, yet the important thing that we can take away from this is that we made it through.

The Resilience Project was finally able to begin for our Year 6 students. This week the focus has been on recognising character strengths within ourselves and others.  Students had to identify their top five strengths and reflect on a time they’ve used them in the past week.  Students chose two classmates to compare their strengths and talk about their similarities and differences.  Following this, a ‘Strength Pyramid’ was created.  Pyramids were divided into three tiers where they had to list their ‘Top 3’ strengths, their ‘Top 2’ strengths used in the classroom and a strength that they are ‘working towards’.

The writing focus throughout the second half of the term has been on Narrative text types. ‘Deserted Islands’ was the theme for our writing pieces. Our Year 6 students worked extremely hard and had a lot of fun creating their detailed mind maps and labelled picture of their islands.  Each lesson students carefully followed the Narrative structure and added different components to their stories.

I would like to wish everyone a wonderful winter break.  I hope that you are able to spend the next few weeks relaxing and enjoying some quality time as a family.  Term 3 will begin on Monday the 13th of July.  I am looking forward to seeing you all for an exciting term ahead!
