Principal's Report

Renee Cotterell

What a term it has been!

In some ways, this term has flown - in other ways, it feels like it has been going forever!  Term 2, 2020 will definitely be remembered!  For me, it will be the resilience of students, staff and parents that I will remember.  It will be the sense of community and support that will stick in my mind.  It will be that, when times were tough and people were anxious and feeling uncertain, our school stood strong and continued to provide a high standard of education and support to all students, whether it be via the online program, the onsite program, or the offline home packs.  We continued to support the well-being of students and parents through regular contact, our daily class news feed posts, our class Webex sessions and our targeted well-being learning tasks.  When all students are safely back on site and our regular classroom learning programs have re-commenced, it will be with pride that I look back and reflect on the amazing accomplishments of staff, students and parents during such an unprecedented time in history.  Having said that, let's keep our fingers crossed for a smooth and uneventful beginning to Term 3!

Re-scheduled School Photos

Shine the shoes, book in for a hair trim and practise those toothy grins for our new school photo date - Friday 24th July (end week 2).  Please note that any payments made at the time of our postponed photos will automatically carry over to the new date - there is no need to place the order again!  New forms have been distributed this week (or have been kept safe at school until you return) for those that have misplaced their previous form.

Semester 1 Student Reports

This Friday afternoon, our Semester 1 Student Reports will be available on Compass.  It goes without saying that these reports look a little different from other reports you would have received from us over the years.  Achievement levels through Progression Points will not be available for these reports.  A comment from classroom teachers based on Term 1 learning, as well as an outline of the content covered throughout the Remote Learning period will be seen on these reports.  A similar comment will also be included from Specialist teachers.  As always, if you have queries about your child's report, please make contact with the teacher through Compass for further clarification.

Pyjama Day at PSPS

Please note that the first Friday back in Term 3 will be Pyjama Day.  Our Student Representative Council have registered for us to take part in the National Pyjama Foundation's Pyjama Day to raise money and awareness for ensuring children in foster care are looked after.  A gold coin donation on the Friday will be the 'fine' for coming to school in pyjamas.

Upcoming Fundraising Events

Our Student Representative Council are organising for school beanies to be sold in the first part of Term 2.  The cost of a beanie will be $18 with the designs and order forms circulated shortly.  We also have our Winter Warmer pie drive, with some sweet and savoury pies available to order as well as some yummy slices and treats.  These will be supplied by the Emerald Village Bakery.  Details and order forms will be distributed at the beginning of term 3.  We are aiming to hold our Fun Run at the end of term 3, obviously depending on the most up to date information from the Department of Education.  The sponsorship page remains open and we will publish details of the re-scheduled event as soon as it is finalised.

2021 Prep Enrolments

Do you or someone you know have a child beginning Prep in 2021?  Our enrolment information evening will be held on Monday 20th July from 6pm-7pm.  Enrolment packs will be distributed at this session, or they can be collected from the front office.  Please ensure you have filled in the sibling enrolment information form which is available on the school website, if this applies to your family.  If you have any questions about Prep enrolments (or enrolments in general), please contact the front office.

Being prepared for the cooler months

Please ensure your child is coming to school nice and warm - a jacket or jumper is essential during our cold winter months.  It doesn't hurt to also send along a change of clothes just in case your child happens to find themselves in the mud or puddles!  While we restrict access to the oval on really wet days, we do still like to give our students a chance to have a good run around at break times.

Holiday Break

I hope you all have a lovely, relaxing holiday break planned!  Make sure you stay safe and enjoy spending time with loved ones.  I look forward to welcoming everyone back for the beginning of Term 3 on Monday 13th July.

Take care,

Renee Cotterell
