Summer Harvest from CRC Sydenham’s Edible Garden

Last year the Senior VCAL Work Related Skills class built six more wicking beds for our VET Horticulture class to grow produce for Manna in our Edible Garden. The VET Horticulture class planted a range of herbs and vegetables for the Summer season. Over the holidays thanks to the Maintenance team the edible gardens were kept watered and maintained and a large amount of produce was collected and used in Manna.
Manna have been busy using the collections from the gardens, which include plums and apricots for preserving, silverbeet, cabbage, celery and spinach for salads and pies, various herbs and a huge amount of tomatoes for sauces.
The Horticulture class have had a busy start to the year with harvesting produce from the Summer and plantings of beans, basil, lettuce, spinach, chillies, coriander, parsley, kale, spring onions, corn, passionfruit, thyme and marigolds.
Thank you to everyone who supported us by having lunch at Manna in 2016, we look forward to growing and cooking more produce for you this year.
