Our Catholic Faith

Lord Jesus Christ,
May we open ourselves to the wonders of knowing you,
And, in knowing you, to love you.
May we rejoice in living out your Word of Life in love.
Throughout our days,
May we grow in your love until we attain full joy.
We give you thanks Lord for the gift of Faith
And we pray that with guidance from St Anselm
May our College motto: “Faith Seeking Understanding”
Be an inspiration and a path that paves the way for our faith in you to be made complete.
Just as you warmly welcome us, we pray that we welcome your Word and your Love in order for our Faith to seek and find Understanding.
In all our thoughts, in all our words, in all our actions, let us take the time to seek you and desire you in our seeking.
Our faith is a flame that grows stronger the more it is shared and passed around.
We pray that through Faith Seeking Understanding, we, the community of Catholic Regional College Sydenham, continue to nurture and tend to the flame of faith of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Through your Word and through the Holy Spirit,
We are shown the way to eternal life.
As we desire to know you, as we continue to love you, as we commit to spreading your Word of love and life through our actions, may we finally and fully come to Understand.
Amen
On Friday 24 February, Fr. Noel Brady and Fr. John O’Reilly blessed the beautiful sculpture at the front of the College. This sculpture represents Corpus Christi, which in turn, raises the idea of, Faith Seeking Understanding. St Anselm, in his book, the “Proslogion”, rationalised the existence of God to the people of his time and those to come and, as such, provided ontological proof for the existence of God.
Is it ever possible for faith to be understood? Can the belief of faith be made real? The question of one’s ability to represent one’s faith is considered thoroughly by St. Anselm of Canterbury in his Proslogion, which was a work that ultimately sought to show the quest of faith in search of genuine understanding.
The motto beautifully represents the mystery of faith in God and humankind’s search for understanding in our Lord, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
CatholicCare delivered the first African Dads and Kids Camp at Phillip Island in 2008. By giving African fathers the chance to spend quality time with their children, it aimed to strengthen father and child relationships.
During a weekend of bonding and learning, our qualified relationship educators encourage dads and kids from refugee backgrounds to participate in a range of activities and discussions to assist their settlement.
Since then, and 15 camps later, hundreds of father and child relationships have been strengthened, and CatholicCare is expanding the program, making it available to dads and kids from more refugee backgrounds, including Afghanistan, Burma, Iraq and Syria, as well as Africa.
As part of their settlement, refugee dads and kids have to deal with major changes to the way their family operates.
The new Refugee Dads and Kids Weekend will provide time to reflect on traditional culture, the impact of the refugee journey on the whole family, parenting at home versus Australia, and how to work as a team to meet new challenges.
We understand the challenges of moving countries and changing cultures and parenting practices across many newly arrived communities. For this reason, CatholicCare is pleased to be expanding the program to include dads and kids from more refugee backgrounds.
If there are families with students attending your school or organisation that can benefit from this FREE weekend, please share the attached flyer and encourage them to register for the upcoming camp at Phillip Island 24th – 26th March.
