The Junior School AFL team had a victory in their game with Sydney Grammar School
Congratulations to the Year 6 Blue boys who led the Monday Morning assembly prayer with a focus on our Year 12 students who will be leaving us at the end of this term. The whole class were involved with a procession of pictures of the boys down the centre aisle of the assembly.
The HSC begins in Term 4. It doesn’t seem that long ago that our Year 12 students were in the Junior School. This is a prayer for Year 12:
Year 12 Prayer
This morning we would like to especially welcome our year 12 students to their final school assembly as a student here at St Pius X College. We would like to take a moment this morning to share some memories with you of their time here at the College while we pray for them.
Let’s start with the sign of the cross……
Lord, please bless and guide our Year 12 students as they reach this end, and as they chart new beginnings. May what they have learned by being here with us at St Pius X allow them to truly be men for others. May what we have learned from them enable us to be the same.
God, as they conclude their formal classes here at St Pius, we ask that they especially feel your closeness during this time. Give them the calm hearts and quiet confidence in the knowledge that you hold them in the palm of your hand. Holy Spirit, send these young men your gifts of wisdom and knowledge as they prepare for their HSC exams next month.
Please help them to use all that they have learned here to make the world a better place - to
serve others in true solidarity and kinship - to seek ways to help the poor, the marginalized,
and those who are suffering - and to always seek the greater good.
We know that some of them will experience pain and hardship, and we know that some of
them already have, and we ask you to grant them solace and strength.
Finally, Father, we thank you for giving us the opportunity to build our community with these
young men they are here. Though they are leaving our campus, we know that they will always be with us as part of the St Pius X family, and we ask that the bonds that have been created here remain strong despite any distance.

LEAVE – THANK YOU: Thank you to Mrs Schiller who replaced Mrs Spanyik for Term 3. She did a wonderful job with the boys and was a pleasure to work with at school. Hopefully, Mrs Schiller will be available for some casual work next term. Next Term Mrs Spanyik will return from her travels.
STUDENT TEACHERS: We have had two student teachers, Gabbie McKay and Monique Wright, for the last 7 weeks who will finish up at the end of this term. They are in their fourth year at ACU and have almost completed their courses and are both very competent so we wish them well in their careers.
SPORT: This Thursday is Summer sport training at Oxford Falls – normal timings.
Reminder: SCIENCE PRESENTATION AFTERNOON: This Friday 27 September, the last day of term, we will be having an afternoon where the boys can present their assignments. If they have an audience, it enhances their learning and makes it real. Also, if you can explain why something happens then you have a high level of understanding so on this afternoon the boys will have to explain why or how their assignment was designed the way it was or how it works.
Year 5 are studying adaptations and designing animal enclosures so they will need to explain how and why they designed the enclosure in the fashion they did. Year 6 are investigating natural phenomenon and they will need to explain how the phenomenon is caused and what happens. If you wish to come and learn please come along from 1.45 to 2.45pm on Friday. Please extend this invitation to grandparents or a significant auntie or uncle.

Year 6 Literacy Class 1 and 2 Visit the State Library
Students in Mrs Schiller’s and Mrs Martin’s literacy groups visited the State Library where they participated in the ‘Seeking Shakespeare Program’. Here the students discovered one of the greatest writers of all time. They uncovered the little known, unexplored treasures in their extensive collection. One of the highlights was The Shakespeare Room, showcasing the masterpieces of the renowned author. Thank you to Mrs Schiller for leading the excursion on the day. I know that the boys thoroughly enjoyed the experience, also to our pre service teachers Monique Wright and Gabbie McKay.
Mrs Martin’s Book Trail: YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD By Lucy Bell
Every day we see a problem we would like to fix. A piece of rubbish in a green, grassy park. Plastic water bottles buried in the sand at the beach. A garbage bin overflowing onto the street. A skinny, stray dog. A homeless person on a cold day. These problems seem impossible for one person to change. But we can fix them, if we each do our part - one step at a time. This practical guide is designed to empower kids to make changes in their lives to help make a difference in the world. Includes information, ideas and activities, and interspersed with features on amazing children around the world.
“One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world.” MALALA YOUSAFZAI

AFL Spring Challenge: From Mr Ure ... The Junior School AFL team had its final fixture of the season, taking on Sydney Grammar School. The game was extremely physical and entertaining with end to end footy the whole game. The boys competed the whole game and as a result came away victorious by two goals. Angus Hunt was back to full strength after a jarred thumb, kicking three goals and earning himself three points. Ben Flynn took an absolute screamer of a mark thus earning himself the two points and Aidan McNeilly was everywhere, earning himself one point. An excellent spring season of Friday night footy – well done to all players. Thanks to the parents for assistance with coaching and transporting players.
