Holt District AFL Lightning Premiership

Last week on Friday 21st June, 19 students represented St James at the Holt District AFL lightning premiership. Most of the team had played together in the weeks leading up to the competition on Fridays during our community sport program, so they had,had lots of practice as a team. The day was extremely wet and cold which made for some very challenging conditions but not once did I hear anyone complain. The students played so well as a team and displayed sportsmanship that they should be very proud of.

A huge thank you to John Costa, dad of Ben, who coached all games not only on the day but also our Friday/Community sport games. He even had to umpire at short notice during one game and just stepped up and did it. Thank-you to Ned F who was a stand out captain each week, organising the team and jumpers. Thank-you to Amanda Mack who brought along her Mary Poppins bag full of lollies and oranges!

We finished second in our pool and then lost in the semi-final to the school that eventually won the grand final. In the playoffs for 3rd we managed to beat a school that we had lost to by 1 point in the first round by 3 goals.

It was a terrific day, well done to all students who played.

Holt District Netball Lightning Premiership

Unfortunately last Thursday the netballers weren’t as lucky as the footballers and our netball was postponed to next Thursday 27th June. As some students will be absent, I have added in a few new players to the teams and mixed them up again. We will be playing at the Thomas St courts in Hampton from 10am-2.30pm. Let’s hope the weather is a little bit kinder to us this week!

Beachside Soccer Play offs

On Tuesday 23rd July the St James Soccer team will be heading off to Beachside for our next level of competition. This will be an exciting day for all especially to the new year 5 students to the team. The venue is yet TBC. Please look out for a CareMonkey if your daughter is involved.

During term 3 we have the following sports to look forward to:

Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday,
