Mercy College & St Pius X College Youth Mass - Saturday 24 March
On Tuesday 12 March the Junior School gathered in the parish of Our Lady of Dolours for a significant liturgy. It was an opportunity to present our new Year 5 and Year 6 students with a Bible for use in Religion lessons. The Bible, as explained to students, is a guide for Catholics and Christians alike – providing a moral framework for our interaction with those around us in the community. Students were encouraged to use their Bible as a guide to assist them in times when they require clarity in a situation. A special thankyou to Mr Simpson, 6 Green, for providing the 2019 Reflection on how the Bible has been of assistance to him and how he has used the Bible in his life.
All students are encouraged to be mindful of the care of their Bible and to ensure that it remains in good condition.
Thankyou to the parish of Our Lady of Dolours for allowing us to use the church for this special occasion.
Every second Tuesday morning St. Pius hosts a Mass in the school Chapel, thanks to the ongoing support of the clergy of Our Lady of Dolours. Thanks to Mr Kovacic and his Year 8 Religion class for reading at our Mass on the 12 March.
Our next Chapel Mass will be held on Tuesday 26 March. All parents who are available are invited to attend with their son. Thankyou in advance to Mr Donovan’s Year 10 Religion class who will look after the required duties for this celebration.

We have started our Project Compassion appeal in great spirit, with the student body already surpassing $1,000 in the first few days of collection.
This year’s theme is “100% Hope”, with programs being featured from Zimbabwe, Indonesia and the Solomon Islands, among other Caritas projects around the world. Thank you to Year 12, as well as the Eucharistic Ministers and members of the Edmund Rice Society, who have collected for this great initiative.
Parents, friends and other members of the SPX community can support Caritas by make a tax-deductible donation through the following link: https://lent.caritas.org.au/stpiusxchatswood.
Matthew Talbot Hostel, a major part of the College’s Social Justice Program, has garnered strong participation from Years 10 and 11 with our weekly rosters filling up for the rest of the year! Students spend their time volunteering in the Matthew Talbot Dining Room, serving meals to the less fortunate and allowing them to gain a fresh perspective on the lives of those who are struggling to find a home to live in.

Throughout Term 2 our St Pius X College students in Years 9 and 10 will be given the opportunity to attend an ‘Alpha for Youth’ series on a Wednesday afternoon throughout the term from 3:30pm until 5pm each week in the Parish meeting room area on Kirk Street. The series will begin on Wednesday 1 May and will conclude on 26 June. It will be run through our Chatswood Parish and in partnership with Mercy College, with the Mercy College students in Years 9 and 10 also invited to attend.
Alpha is a fun and social opportunity for students of this age to engage with their faith, to ask questions and to share ideas and experiences with their peers. When we last ran the program in 2017 it was an extremely positive and engaging experience for students from both Colleges.
Each session will begin with an afternoon tea and a chance for our students to mingle and come to know each other in fellowship and community. During each session students will watch short inspirational and educational videos on faith (which can be sampled here; http://alpha.org/alpha-youth-series/) and will be given a chance to discuss these videos with their peers, raising questions and seeking a deeper understanding of the Catholic Faith through relationship amongst themselves.
If you would like more information please consider the information and permission forms below. Please don’t hesitate to contact Mr Adrian Brannan via phone or email as below if you have any queries.
