Discovery Day at UOW

Last week Year 12 went on an excursion to the University of Wollongong Discovery Day.  We had a blast!  We made a little friend on our excursion who was our model in all our photos.

Monday we travelled down to Wollongong and had a nice stop at a lookout, ice-cream shop and the beach once we got there.  Spending the day as tourists from the country was so much fun!  We arrived at the University and we were allocated individual dorms on campus, a nice way to experience the university life.  Dinner and entertainment were provided in the courtyard, mixing with other schools.  This was a great social evening with other students our age from all across NSW, meeting new people with similar aspirations and getting to know other schools. After our dinner we went bowling.  This is where some hidden talents came out.

In the morning each student was given their own personalised timetable with four workshops in different courses.  Some were hands on practical workshops while others were theory or Q & A style lecturers from UOW.  Workshops included subjects from nursing to law, to university tours, to photography, a great showcase of what UOW has to offer.

Lunch with entertainment was provided just like the night before, with the food court being open, it was incredible!  The Unibar was also open with a DJ inside.  Many Cowra High School students were the ringleaders in the dance and encouraged others to join.

In summary, this Discovery Day helped answer the many questions us Year 12 Students had about University, helping with the many worries we also had about making the next move after finishing high school.  This is a fantastic opportunity to go to the campus to look around and see what they have to offer in comparison to other universities.

The Adventures of "O"

Hi there! My name is "O".  I joined the Cowra High School Year 12 group on the way to the University of Wollongong Discovery Day.  They were a lovely group of students who included me in all their activities over the two days.  Have a look at the photo gallery to see what the group got up to!

I hope you get to see me again soon.  Year 12 tells me there is plenty more to come this year!
