Seasons in Room 29

Room 29 have been investigating the seasons of the year. We have been making connections between the seasons we experience in Adelaide with the seasons experienced in the Indigenous land of the Kakadu, using the book 'Walking with the Seasons in Kakadu' by Diane Lucas and Ken Searle.

Daniel said:  "They have two seasons, wet and dry"

Dahlia said:  "Then they have six parts to the wet and dry seasons. They have a lot of seasons"

Leila noticed:  "A lot of their seasons begin with the letter g"

We then worked in small groups to create a riddle by 'working backwards'. We choose the season to focus on and then made up a riddle for the other children to guess the season. Here are some of our riddles. Can you work it out the answers? (They can be found in the 'School News' section of the newsletter.)

  • 1. 'I am sort of warm and sort of cold. The the wind blows, my leaves fall off. What season am I?'
  • 2. 'This season is very cold. You might need a beanie! The weather can be quite rainy. Bears hibernate. What season am I?'
  • 3. 'I'm a season that is quite close to the beginning of the year. It can be hot in this month and you need to be sun smart. What season am I?'
  • 4. 'It can be warm but also cold in this season. It's a little bit rainy and sometimes it hails. It's not winter. What season am I?'

National Tree Day

Last term Rooms 34 and 21 enjoyed a beautiful morning celebrating National Tree Day. The students planted 100 trees and shrubs supplied by the Charles Sturt Council in the area across the road from the school and next to the creek. The gardeners from the council were brilliant assisting the students with the planting.

Primary Schools Music Festival

During September Year 5 Grange students were involved with the Primary Schools Music Festival at the Adelaide Festival Centre. The students’ contribution to this festival was an excellent life experience as they showcased their talent and confidence in a public arena. Students performed in a professional forum with other student choristers and musicians.

Our students demonstrated their commitment and Year 5 teachers and parents are to be congratulated in their encouragement of students.

Individual students also showcased their performing arts skills. Royce W performed on the piano, David J, on the cajón and Ambah C performed in Troupe.

In 2019, Year 6 and 7 students are invited to audition for an opportunity to participate in the Primary Schools Music Festival at the Festival Theatre. Students can audition for troupe, assisting artists and comperes.  Information for these auditions will be publicised early in Term one, 2019.
