From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Konnichiwa!

School planning for 2019

All State schools are now working on their improvement planning for 2019. The Department for Education has asked that all schools complete their plans for improvement by the end of this term in preparation for 2019. The focus of the plans is on literacy and numeracy. The priorities for our Site Improvement Plan are-

  • To improve student achievement in writing, Foundation to Year 7
  • To improve student achievement in reading, Years 3-7
  • To improve student achievement in Mathematics, Foundation to Year 2

These areas build upon our improvement work in literacy and mathematics and identify our next steps for improvement. This doesn’t mean that we are not focussing on other year levels in reading and maths, but our next improvement steps are at the listed year levels.

Mathematics

Over the last month I co-presented work of the Thinking Maths Project of the Department for Education and the work of Grange Primary School at two International Conferences (Evidence Based Learning Summit and Australian Council of Education Leaders) in Melbourne. A summary of the Thinking Maths project is provided in the link below.

I represented the work of the 158 schools involved in Thinking Maths. The work of Grange has been showcased at these conferences and is something to celebrate. Thinking Maths has enabled significant  growth in student achievement  in so many schools.
