College Captain - Erin Winstanley

My name is Erin Winstanley, and I am Mount Alvernia’s 2023 College Captain. If I had to sum up what I believe makes a great leader; it would be honesty, loyalty, resilience and a positive attitude. I know a great leader does not only possess these unique qualities, but I believe bringing these specific qualities to my role this year will make a lasting difference.

In 2023 our captaincy mission is to focus on the student body. This year, we want to ensure each students uniqueness shines! We hope to build up a strong community – a team.

As Rudyard Kipling wrote, ‘For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.’ This line from the famous poem, The Law for the Wolves, details the importance of each member of the wolfpack. It emphasises, we are only as strong as our weakest member. Here at Mount Alvernia, we are a team, we are a community, and we must work together every day to make each member of this wolfpack stronger. Both individually and collectively each member of our Mount Alvernia community has something different to offer, so we as captains want to capture your individuality and help it flourish.

If I was to give some advice to the younger students wanting to peruse leadership, it would most certainly be put yourself out there, be yourself and be humble.

Vice Captain - Lizzie Johnston

Hello - my name is Lizzie Johnston and I am the 2023 Vice Captain. Going into this role I was so excited because Mount A has been my second home ever since I began here in 2018! I feel very honoured to be elected to a position where I can be a part of the same Mount A magic that made me feel so connected to this community, and will hopefully make every student feel the same way. This year our main focus is promoting Mt A pride for every student, and I think a big part of that comes from our senior class and captains, who set the precedent for other students - I’m confident this year’s incredible cohort will help our younger peers to have an AMAZING year. To all students who want to make a change and serve your community I can’t recommend leadership enough - it’s a taste of real-world responsibility that you undertake with a group of incredibly passionate peers who you will learn from everyday. If you’re a budding leader looking for advice or a way to share your ideas - please do not hesitate to contact me or the other captains, we would love to chat! Other than that, all I can say is… let’s go 2023!
