Music

Students in Prep have commenced music lessons with Miss Cordell this week in the Music Room which has been an exciting experience for them! Students in Years 1 to 6 have commenced using listening journals with Mrs Wynne to guide and broaden their understanding of music. Students in Years 1 and 2 are learning about the Carnival of the Animals, students in Years 3 and 4 are learning about instruments of the orchestra, and students in Years 5 and 6 are learning more about the connection between music and art in a listening program developed by the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

Marimba

All students in Years 4, 5 and 6 will participate in an ensemble in the 2023 Marimba Program, an extension of the Classroom Music Program. Beginning in February, each student will attend a weekly rehearsal for 30 minutes with their classmates. The marimba ensemble teacher is Blake Hansen. Blake is an experienced music teacher who taught percussion and marimba at EHPS last year. During rehearsals, students are given the opportunity to improve:

  • listening skills
  • memory
  • co-ordination
  • concentration
  • ability to follow instructions
  • self-control
  •  teamwork
