On Thursday 23 February, the Year 10 Business students were treated to a quality information session from Ms Jodie O’Leary, Principal Policy Officer at the Queensland Sentencing Advisory Council. The session included information on different types of sentencing including ways the courts can divert youth offenders from detention.
There was a real-life example involving a youth assault case where a young girl, Jess, allowed two boys to beat up her friend. She faced court on the charge of assault and was asked to complete a restorative justice session with the victim. We thank Ms O’Leary for taking time out of her schedule to provide us with the session as it was a great way to reinforce what we are studying this term.

The term started with many breakfast meals and then progressed to lunches and dinners. This term has been a roller-coaster of tastes and spices that made my taste buds explode. Exploring from eggs to meats, I have enjoyed every minute of my culinary journey. I have ventured through this with supportive friends and teachers. This journey has fed me at lunchtime, and I have enjoyed that. I will miss these lessons.
Note: Year 7 students undertake six weeks of Design Technology, Digital Technology and Food Technology to get a taster of each subject
Students in Year 9 Design and Technology have been working on chopping boards in the workshop this term, and some of the designs have come out really well. Some interesting shapes and artwork have been burned into the timber too.
On Tuesday, the Year 11EESA class visited the Cairns Mineral and Lapidary Club to examine over 500 rare minerals and rocks fossicked all over Australia (and the world!). They got to see a slab of petrified wood cut open, faceted of gem stones and a UV identification test. Thank you to Bill Reese and Jo Venables for showing our boys how samples are identified and processed.
Our first batch of Year 7 ceramic camp dogs is now complete!
Inspired by Indigenous artist Lena Yarinkura, each student has designed and hand-built a camp dog using clay in the six-week Visual Art rotation. Their varied sculptures demonstrate growing skill, personality and attention to detail, which the students should be very proud of. Congratulations to 07ARTC on your hard work and application.
07TECC have proudly finished 6 weeks in their Design Technology rotation. They have made timber marble maze games which they designed themselves. The students had a lot of fun, and some really good workmanship was produced.
