So far, our college has raised $6400 for MAPS. It is an incredible achievement and getting closer to our goal! We still have a fair way to go to reach $10,000. This money will go towards the Marist school in Mabiri to help the young people to get a better education, which hopefully will lead to a better life.
Rosies is being well supported by our staff and Year 12 students. The Rosies staff have expressed their gratitude to us, and they really need the extra helping hands.
Mission Service Log Application Forms.
We know that many members of our college are giving time for worthy causes outside of school hours, hours that can count towards your college service record. Homeroom teachers have the forms for this. The awards and the number of hours for each award are listed in the student diary on page 129. Service that occurred over the school holidays and in Term 1 needs to be logged by the end of the term. If you reach platinum by the end of the year your photo goes on the lightning board in the Year 8 Quad next year!
Marist Regional Connect Night
An invitation is extended to attend a Marist Regional Connect Night that Saints is hosting in Term 2. It’s a two-day program on 20 and 21 May which is open to Years 11 and 12 students Two other Marist schools, Burdekin Catholic High School and Good Counsel College, are also invited. Please let Mrs Cross know by the end of week 9 if you are interested. See the flyer/invitation below.
SRC Marist Leadership Formation Day
On Wednesday March 8, the SRC travelled to Innisfail to join the student leaders of Good Counsel for a Marist Formation Leadership Day run by Br Tony Leon. It was a fabulous day! Please read the comments below.
The students were then given their badges in a special presentation at the whole College Assembly.
Comments from Students
Max - Leadership Day was a great opportunity for me to see how to be a better leader through effective problem solving, communicating and using my words to achieve a solution for problems.
Will - At Good Council College I learned how to resolve conflicts among my peers and that everyone's opinion matters.
Christian - I learned how it is important to work with others, which lets them grow.
Kaleb - The Leadership Conference with other student leaders from Innisfail Good Counsel College provided great insight into how to connect with people and solve dilemmas with a future focused mindset.
Damajak - The Leadership Day was a good day and an opportunity to meet other new student leaders from a different school and talk about listening and talk about the future amongst my peers.
Andre - The Leadership Day was an amazing opportunity to develop our problem-solving skills, and to be able to approach problems with a broad mindset whilst becoming confident leaders.
Lachlan - The Leadership Day was an extraordinary opportunity to be able to help develop essential leadership skills and cooperation skills and it was a truly amazing experience for all involved.
Patrick - The Leadership Day with Good Counsel College was a great way for me to learn how to properly resolve conflicts so that someone doesn’t have all the work done for them but has to find a solution themselves.
Ethan - at Leadership Day I learned how to be a respectful role model and how to brighten the day of all friends and peers at our school. I also learned that being a leader is about courage and empathy, and to be a good leader you must work with your peers.
The Marist Association
The Association met for the first time on Thursday March 9. The theme for our session was “driven and drawn” which challenged us to reflect on our lives. The busyness of our lives stopped briefly so we could look for clarity among the usual confusion and haziness of a normal day. It was enlightening, and we thank Br Tony Leon for leading us. We thank the Brothers for opening up their home to us for a shared meal, and we feel blessed to have such a wonderful Marist community here at Saints!
