Assembly

It felt a little like the Nate show this week at assembly. Nate was awarded student of the week for his class; he gave a book recommendation and then was drawn out as the lucky attendee!

Star Students

Foundation: Ryan for a very detailed retelling of the three little pig's story.

Year 1 & 2 Learning Detective of the week: Archie for asking questions to help with his understanding.

Year 3 & 4: Nate for listening well and trying his best in class.

Year 5 & 6: Rhys for seeing a need and acting on it.

Reading Awards

Students are continuing to read. It is a great thing to do right before going to sleep. Those who received certificates at assembly this week:

50 nights: Charlie, Lily

75 nights: Eve, Charlott

Our first student to reach 100 nights was announced this week:

100 nights: Anna

Book Recommendation

Nate recommended “Wings of Fire-The Dragonet Prophecy”. Nate describes the book as a graphic novel, set beneath a mountain, post war. He says the main characters are clay, Kestrel, Queen Scarlet and the Dragonets. The story line is set around Clay, a dragonet who was chosen to fulfill a prophecy. Nate recommends this book to students in Years 1 to 6 and rates it 5 stars.

A Taste of Africa

This Friday between recess and lunch, students will see a live performance, “A Taste of Africa”, by Asanti Dance Theatre. During the performance students will learn about African instruments and traditional village activities. Following the performance, they will have the opportunity to explore African drumming and dance activities for themselves.

Kung Fu

Next Tuesday students will witness and participate in Kung Fu activities. This is to complement their Chinese studies.

Around the classrooms

There has been a lot of learning taking place in our building and in some really fun ways.

I caught the Foundation class eating popcorn while they listened to a story!

The Learning Detectives (Year 1 & 2) were covered in blue paint. When I investigated the cause, they were beginning to make dioramas. I am keen to see the finished products.

F-2 have been learning about perseverance all week with the help of the ‘sloth’. Today they are reading the story.

Year 5 & 6, gained new ‘best friends’ and have undertaken a range of measures which they have been displaying as graphs.

Tom was extremely impressed with his ‘REAL scientific’ line graph!
