Learning Conferences
Our first round of Learning Conferences will be held on Thursday, 9 March.
Conference times will be available from 8 am until 7:30 pm and will be in 15-minute slots. Information about how to book has been sent via Hero. If you need help with this, email teresah@westernheights.school.nz or pop in and see her.
We value all and any information you can share with us about your child that will help them at school. We find these discussions invaluable. We will also share how your child has settled into school and will share the Key Competency goals we will work on together. This will focus on Self-Management, Participating and Contributing, how they relate to others (i.e., relationships, including friendships), their Thinking Skills, and any other observations we have made.
Year One has a different approach to Learning Conferences - which they have shared with their parents.
This term, they are using and sharing learning stories with our families. As these are the child's first "Learning Story," we want to show how their learning is connected to the NZ Curriculum, School vision, values, key competencies, and play urges.
As a junior syndicate, we are a play-based learning school; therefore, learning stories are a narrative created from observations. We can provide our families with a series of photos of their child's learning. These stories provide families with a window into the activities we provide that lead to their child's development of learning dispositions. Learning stories are well-known and familiar to our ECE families. This makes a smoother and easier transition to help them understand their child's learning journey.
