Student Leadership

Kristen Raine

A message from our School Captains and Vice-Captains Charlie Giles, Jayde Parsons, Bean Webster, Jeremy Smyth,

Hi everyone. It’s very exciting to see so many students ready and eager to be part of our school community for 2023, and we are greatly looking forward to working with as many of you as possible through the student action teams.

We became School Captains to help people, to become advocates to increase student voice and agency within Maffra Secondary and build student confidence. We see student leadership as a path to personal growth, and a way to help others grow. It is our mutual goal to change and improve our school community, making it a more positive and enjoyable place for everyone to be.

This year, we want to continue many of the traditions started last year, like Maffra’s Got Talent, Harmony Week, gratitude posts, and Carnival Day, and we hope to implement new things such as lunchtime activities, learning to learn lessons designed by students, and student run projects. We also want to increase the roles of House Captains, Arts Captains, Environment Captains, and Diversity Captains, so that more can be done, and more students can have a say and get involved in areas that interest them. Finally, we want to continue to increase student voice and agency within our school and the classroom, empowering students to influence and take responsibility for their learning.

If anyone has any questions about school or student leadership, we’re always happy to talk. Email us, message us on teams, or come find one of us in the yard. Everyone is welcome to come to Year Level, Arts, Environment and Diversity meetings, and feel free to talk to any of the student leaders if you have ideas, suggestions, or feedback. If you feel more comfortable talking to a teacher, Mrs Raine is in charge of student leadership and any other teacher would be happy to pass along a message to one of us. Thank you!
