From the Classroom
High Ability Students (HAS) Program
This year as a part of the High Ability Students program, Karoo Primary has been participating in the Maths Talent Quest.
The Maths Talent Quest was first held in 1982, run by the Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV) and is a competition for students to create projects, and work towards being awarded a merit certificate.
Since the last week of Term 1, selected students in Years 3 to 6 have been working on investigations based on a topic of their own interest. This helps students to discover and understand how maths is all around them. Students have worked independently or in small groups to come up with an appropriate aim and complete the maths related to this. There are projects covering a range of topics such as AFL, basketball, Minecraft, apples, overseas holidays and the cost of building a new school. They are working hard at home and also during their Maths Talent Quest session at school. Projects are due at school on Friday 14th July (Term 3, Week 1) when they will then be sent to the MAV for judging by other teachers across Victoria.
Well done so far everyone and fingers crossed for our amazing Mathematicians!
