St Mary's Production
Ms
St Mary’s school is proud to announce that our production this year will be: Pirates Past Noon Kids!
(For those parents who haven’t met Ms Earle - Hi! I’m the pirate in the video above! Thank you for welcoming me to the school! I am the Performing Arts Teacher! 🙂)
Magic Tree House: Pirates Past Noon KIDS is an adaptation of the fourth of Mary Pope Osborne's award-winning fantasy adventure books from the Magic Tree House book series. Two siblings, Jack and Annie return to visit the magic tree house on a dreary, rainy day. They find a book where the sun is shining and the waves are crashing, so they wish to travel to this tropical place. They realise that they are in the eighteenth-century Caribbean, the time of pirates! The siblings meet Captain Bones, a mean old pirate who captures the two and forces them to help him find buried treasure. It's up to Jack and Annie to find their way back to the tree house and make their way home.
Who is in the production?
The whole school will take part in the production - in class items and group items. So far, during Performing Arts classes, we have been reading through the script together, and we have been familiarising ourselves with the story.
When is the production?
Our school will perform the production on 13 September, 2023. We hope you can come! Ticket sales will be announced later.
Who is eligible to try for special roles?
There are different kinds of special roles and ways to get involved this year in our production.
Parent Helpers/Community Helpers
We would love to ask for any parents/carers who would like to get involved with sewing costumes, sourcing costumes, building set pieces (tree house, pirate ship) or who can support us in some other way (such as a fundraiser, technical help lighting/sound.) To please contact jes.earle@smstkildaeast.catholic.edu.au
Year 5 and 6 Lead Roles
Because we plan to hold a production every 2 years we would like to offer the opportunity to try for lead roles to our Year 5 and 6 students.
To see what is involved with the audition process and how you might be able to support your child through this process please go to:
https://sites.google.com/smstkildaeast.catholic.edu.au/ppn2023public/home
We will do our best to share roles around the cohort - in order to offer students the best possible opportunity to perform with confidence we will be electing students based on their merit in the audition process - not all students will get a lead role.
This is commonly the same in sports teams and other opportunities such as competitions.
We have explained this to the students and would encourage you to speak with your children about this. It is about being fair but also about ensuring a child is not placed in a situation where they will feel uncomfortable performing or receive a traumatic experience from being ill-equipped in the incorrect role. We will have a number of staff involved in the panel to ensure that this process is as fair and moderated as possible!
Stay tuned for more news! Off we sail me hearties!
