Auslan News

Over the past fortnight in Auslan classes, all students have been learning many Animal signs to build their sign bank. Signs to practise at home together include…

Farm – farm, animals, farmer, tractor, pig, cow, bull, dog, cat, fish, frog, duck, goose, chicken, rooster, rabbit, donkey, mouse, horse, lamb, and sheep.

Sea – sea, animals, water, fish, starfish, turtle, seahorse, crab, shark, whale, dolphin, octopus, jellyfish, and seal.

Zoo – zoo, animals, koala, kangaroo, echidna, platypus, monkey, wolf, butterfly, gorilla, zebra, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, bear, lion, tiger, panther, crocodile, snake, and lizard.

Students may remember just some or all of these new signs. I encourage the practise for fun at home, and we will continue to practise these signs over the coming weeks in class.

Some of the vocabulary we are learning involves fingerspelling, so I am attaching a copy of the Auslan Fingerspelling Alphabet again today, for you to use at home. Students who don’t have access to a printer are encouraged to ask me for a hardcopy of the Auslan Fingerspelling Alphabet to take home.

Please use the attached Fingerspelling Alphabet poster to practise fingerspelling the following words: sea, seal, seaweed, coral, and zoo.

Mrs Riordan.

Senior School Athletics Sports

Congratulations to all involved in the Senior School Athletics last week. We enjoyed perfect weather conditions for this action packed day on at the Flora Hill Complex. It was fantastic to see so many students participating to the best of their ability and enjoying themselves. The students participated in their age groups and completed eight events with an optional 800m at the end of the day. Every student who participated scored points toward their individual ribbon and their House. Our Champion House will be announced at Assembly tomorrow.

The highlight of the day was the House 4 x 100m relay which was also won by Savage House. It was great to see the students cheering on their representatives in a wonderful display of team spirit.

Congratulations to the following students who were Age Champions for their respective age groups. These students will receive their medallions at our Assembly tomorrow.
