Term 2, Week 6
Welcome to the Grade 5/6 news page. We can't believe we are heading in to Week 7 - this term is flying by!
Here's what we will be learning in the 5/6 building over the next 2 weeks:
Writing:
In Weeks 7 & 8, we will continue developing our understanding of language features and structure of an Information Report. We will build our researching skills, to help create a factual and interesting report for our chosen historic Australian event.
Reading:
Our students are thoroughly enjoying our Reader's Notebook text, 'Midnite'. It's a story filled with interesting characters and plot. The focus in Weeks 7 & 8 are to identify language features used in various text types and why author's make specific language choices.
Mathematics:
We will continue to explore the topic of 'Patterns and Algebra'. Within this unit, we will be developing student's ability to problem solve by working through open-ended and authentic (real world) mathematical challenges. If you are up for a challenge, see if you can solve this puzzle that our students tackled last week. The trick is, to complete the challenge in 15 moves or less!
Topic and STEAM:
In our 'Museums in Motion' unit, students have been researching specific events in Australia's history. Over the next two weeks, students will build their dioramas and record their dialogue for our end of term Museum. We would love for you to ask your child about their event and what impact it has had on Australia.
In STEAM, our students are working in their year group cohorts. The Grade 5s are well into their Stop-Motion movie making project. We will look forward to seeing their final submissions in the next few weeks. The Grade 6s are continuing to deepen their robotics skills. They have been challenged this week to develop their knowledge of gear ratios and coding.
