Music Matters
An Evening of Chamber Music - what a fabulous evening it was!
A candle-lit Sarto Centre provided the perfect ambience for our Chamber Music Evening last Friday night. Congratulations to all the musicians, ensemble directors and accompanists who helped to make this such a special night. Highlights of the evening included solo performances by our Year 12 HSC Music students Jacob Chang (voice), Henrik Hogg (voice) and Hudson Lomas (viola), with Jacob and Henrik also doing a fabulous job as MCs in their roles as Performing Arts Captain and Vice-Captain. Special thanks also to Mr Brendan Jones, Ms Penny Lindley and Aiden Perez for stage management, and Mr Stephen Cummins for backstage sound and lighting, Mr Stuart Munday and Mr Ben Williams from Maintenance and our Year 9 photographers, Lachlan Lyall and Will Trist.
Band Concert: Friday 2 June, 5:00 pm school gymnasium – this concert will feature:
- All Concert Bands
- All Jazz Ensembles
- Rock Ensemble
- Bass Guitar Ensemble
- Percussion Ensembles
As this is shorter than previous concerts (it should approximately one hour’s duration) and will have a different feel to a ‘Twilight’ concert, we ask that audience members remain seated until the end of the concert to respect the hard work our students and ensemble directors have done in preparing for these performances and to avoid disruption.

PAPA will be providing a BBQ on Friday 2 June so that students can eat before the concert which commences at 5:00 pm. Sales will conclude before the concert. Families are also most welcome to purchase a sausage sandwich/drink. The BBQ will be starting around 3:00 pm to ensure we can feed hungry performers before the show. We are looking for a few parent volunteers between 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm so if you able to help with the BBQ set up and cooking that would be greatly appreciated. Please email Natalie Lenton on natalielenton@optusnet.com.au if you can assist.
Forestville RSL Concert: Special thanks and congratulations to Mr Geoff Power and the Senior Jazz Ensemble members for their outstanding performance at last week’s, Forestville RSL Concert. It was a wonderful performance experience for our young musicians and a great opportunity to witness similar ensembles from around the Northern Beaches area. We look forward to their performances at the Manly Jazz Festival later this year and wish them well in the upcoming Sydney Eisteddfod events.
Congratulations to Year 12 Music student Jacob Chang, who has been nominated to represent the College at The Rotary Club of Chatswood Roseville Gordon Waterhouse Memorial Music Scholarship 2023. Jacob will attend an interview and perform a couple of songs at the concert at The Zenith Theatre, Chatswood on Tuesday, 6 June from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. All welcome.
In addition to these concerts, we have the following Performing Arts events:
- Sydney Eisteddfod Jazz events - Concourse Theatre

Farewell: This week we are very sad to be bidding adieu to our wonderful classroom Music teacher, Mrs Christine Lewis, who is leaving us to work closer to her home. We thank Mrs Lewis for all the hard work she has done over the past year during extremely difficult times in the Performing Arts Department and with our Senior Music 2 students and Junior Chorale. We wish her all the very best in her future endeavours.

A challenging but very worthy theatre piece. We had a lot to unpack afterwards, and the set is particularly impressive. Thank you to Mrs Fryar for accompanying us.
