Reconciliation Ceremony
Continuing to acknowledge our commitment to First Nations, the entire college celebrated Reconciliation Week by embracing a presentation by the Aboriginal Dance group Nulungu Dreaming on Monday. An insight was provided into the meaning behind Aboriginal tools and artefacts, as well as the purpose and significance of each dance and song performed. In keeping with our Touchstones of both Liberating Education and Inclusive Community, staff and students were given new insight and wisdom into the nature of the Dreaming and its significance for First Nation’s people past, present, and emerging.
Mercy College/St Pius X Social Justice Afternoon
Last Wednesday 24 May a group of students from Years 5 to 11, as part of the Edmund Rice Society, attended a social justice evening at Mercy College to discuss a range of topics and issues. The event included several ice breakers followed by collaborative activities on how we can 'see, judge and act' on injustices within and outside our own communities. Overall, the opportunity presented students with several valuable insights; continuing to foster a fruitful relationship between our two schools in the aspect of social justice work.

Parish Youth Mass
On the Feast of Pentecost members of both the Mercy Catholic College and St Pius X College senior leaders and Mission teams came together for the Parish Youth Mass at 5:30 pm on Sunday night in Our Lady of Dolours Parish. Fr David was the chief celebrant. In his homily father spoke about clam shells protecting and retaining hot coals when fire was scarce and vital, which reflects our flame of love for Jesus kept alive in our hearts. Father David also spoke about youth, and their impact on the world. He mentioned our power in shaping the future, and the responsibility we hold. A presentation was given at the end by a member of the Ignite Youth Ministry group about their conference 28 September – 1 October at the Waitara Cathedral. The event will be jointly hosted by the Archdiocese of Brisbane and Diocese of Broken Bay and we hope to see a delegation from both schools there.

Morning Mass at Mercy College
It has also been great to experience many more of our liturgies together with Mercy College. Monday morning was their turn to host 8:00 am Mass, to which all are welcome, every alternate Monday either in our school Chapel or across the road at the girls school. I would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to Mercy for hosting. I highly encourage all to attend our Monday Chapel Masses.
