Founder's Day
Last Friday, we came together to celebrate our Founder, Edmund Rice. Core to the life of Blessed Edmund Rice was his faith, in which his vocation was firmly fixed on the role that Jesus played in showing us how to live. Several times a day, he would recite the phrase 'Live Jesus in our Hearts Forever', always ensuring that this was the focus. As a man of faith, he had a vision for a world that was inclusive of all.
This manifested itself in his life through his compassionate spiritual engagement with others, particularly the poor and vulnerable.
For us, the day manifested itself in both inclusivity and spirituality, but also in solidarity. We celebrated Mass together followed by sharing lunch on Breen Oval.
It was here where we watched the annual running of the Waterford Mile, in which this year's edition was won by Charlie Ackland (Berg - Year 6) with runners up Cristian Lombardo (Year 8 - Berg) and Nathan Campbell (Year 11 - Hickey) in third place.
Finally, we watched our annual Founder’s Day Performance orchestrated by our Founder’s Day Committee and our comedic stars on stage: Bailey Yeates, Tobias Lacey, Matthew Gainsford, Luke Ters, Dominic Taffa, Nicholas Lipari, Luca Chrisostomou and Alessandro Romeo. Well done to all.
The success of these days is due to the willingness, participation, and cooperation of so many people, most importantly our young men. And weren’t they fantastic across the day. My special thank you goes to Ms Ingrid Viney for all her hard work behind the scenes with the lunch organisation, Mr Chris Hughes managing our facility operations and to Mrs Doonan, Ms Duff, and Mr Freere for their organisation of the performance. And to all our passionate teaching and support staff, for their support across the day.
We hope everyone had a fantastic day in celebration of the wonderful College community that we are all a part of.
