From the Acting Principal

Week 4 Term 2

Parents and Carers,

We had a lovely Mother’s Day Liturgy at Monday morning's assembly led by our student RE and Social Justice Leaders, Georgiana and Asher. The highlight was obviously the song by the Prep students to finish the session. We concluded with a cuppa and refreshments afterwards in the Community Centre.

As mentioned last week, May 24th is the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians. Plans for our Picnic in the Park at Central Park are progressing well. I hesitate to mention that the long range forecast is looking good at this stage so let's keep our fingers crossed and positive thoughts flowing. An Operoo was sent home on Tuesday with the permission slip and a call out for parent helpers to walk to the park at 12.45 pm. While at the Park the students will have some lunch and play. If the weather is unkind to us we will have an alternate plan that keeps us at school but also provides us with time to celebrate. We are attending the 9.30 am Mass celebrated by Father Michael, on Friday the 26th May to bring our celebrations to a close. All families are welcome to join us.

We still have cases of COVID around the school at the moment with several families being impacted. So again, I ask that if someone in your household is positive that you continue to show extra caution. If your children are displaying symptoms please err on the side of caution and keep them home.

The official enrolment window for Preps commencing in 2024 is coming to a close on Wednesday  24th May. We have had a number of school tours over the past few weeks. When I ask prospective new parents how they found out about the school, plenty of them say that they knew other parents who had children here who had spoken very positively about our community. So one more time If you know anybody with children who would be starting Prep next year please reach out and encourage them to come along and have a tour. Any of our current families who have not completed the Prep Enrolment Form for next year, please get it into the office soon.

We welcomed Liz Cox back to the office on Monday this week after her leave. She was greeted with a lovely bunch of flowers from the PFOL on your behalf. On behalf of the school community, I would like to pass condolences to Natalie Arandt and her extended family as they are mourning the loss of Natalie’s brother in law. We keep her in our prayers at this time of great loss.

The weather continued to smile on us, so our team of intrepid cross country runners headed off to Eltham Lower Park for the Eltham District Cross Country Carnival. Huge thanks to the parents who came along and ran the score table for the event and to all the students who made up the team and gave their best on the day. We were also able to play our weekly Eltham District Inter School Sports of football, netball, korfball and bat tennis against the students from Eltham East Primary.

As always, please take a moment to read about all the other exciting things happening at OLHC in the different areas of this newsletter.

Regards,

Mark
