Maths in Year 3 and 4

Year 4 - 3D shapes

The year 4 students have been deepening their knowledge of the attributes of 3D objects. They have made 3D models and written who am I riddles.

How does your 3D knowledge shape up?

Who am I?

I have 5 faces. I have 5 vertices. I have 8 edges. I have 4 triangular faces and 1 square face.

from Sofia

(answer: square-based pyramid)

Who am I?

I have 62 faces, 60 vertices and 120 edges.

from Zoe

(answer: rhombicosidodecahedron)

Who am I?

I have 8 faces, 18 edges, 12 vertices. I have 2 hexagonal faces.

from Syon

(answer: hexagonal prism)

Who am I?

from Michaela

(answer: cube)

Year 3 - Addition and Subtraction

Year 3 are exploring the connection between addition and subtraction and solving addition and subtraction problems using a range of efficient mental and written strategies.

They started the unit with a class discussion on Addition. Using the 'think, pair, share' strategy, the students shared their mathematical knowledge and understandings.

What strategies do you use when completing addition problems?
