Theatre Sports Heats ‘22 – An Overview, the Highs and Lows

It can be daunting to go on stage in front of 200 people and have to make things up on the spot. However, that is what 40 students, including myself, did this week. Nossal hadn’t held a Theatre Sports for the last two years, so most of us had no idea what we were signing up for, but we were all pleasantly surprised. The heats were held over two days during lunch. On the day, each team, which constituted of people from each year level, took turns to play four games where we were given several different scenarios, with only 20 seconds to plan our performances. As you can imagine, we didn’t get much planning done, so we had to make up most of what we were doing on the spot. We had to use our wits, creativity, and at times, our singing voices and pirouetting skills to keep an entire audience entertained. Even though we had no idea what we were doing half the time, we had loads of fun and were able to (occasionally) come up with some pretty great ideas that kept the audience, judges and Mr Woon laughing hysterically. I’m very much looking forward to watching Pegasus and Garuda fight it out for third place following Monday and the finals next Thursday between Griffin and Phoenix (Go Griffin!). Everyone who competed and/or cheered did a fantastic job representing their house, showing off their amazing acting skills. This was an incredibly memorable experience that I would recommend to any student looking to challenge themselves and act a little goofy on stage.
