Student Leadership Training

Hello everyone!

I’m Catherine from 7G2, one of the Year 7 SRC representatives.

On Monday (6th of June), our school hosted a Leadership Training Day. Its main purpose was to increase the leadership skills of students across our school from years 7 to 12, and I was honoured to be chosen as a part of it.

It was a really memorable and enlightening experience, and through the training, we got a deeper understanding of leadership. We were organised into small, rotating groups, and we came up with hilarious responses to scenarios such as: ‘What would you do if all the teachers suddenly disappeared and you were left to govern the school any way you like?’ As you might imagine, the whole classroom was filled with chatter and laughter as we all let our imaginations run wild! ‘But what did these activities have to do with leadership skills? Well, we had actually exercised our problem solving and instant decision making skills, as well as our innovation and creative thinking skills. All these skills are crucial for being a good leader

We learned many valuable social skills, and how to convince someone with your points of view. We also learned about identifying someone’s facial expressions and body languages, and even how to greet someone with a proper handshake!

Above all, I think that it was an incredibly enjoyable experience. From this training program, I learnt that there was so much more to being a leader than just telling people what to do. Being a leader is not just about oneself, it’s about the people in your team and how you can help them be successful. In our various clubs and groups we also planned how to make an impact with our work in 2022 and beyond.

As an SRC representative, I now have more ideas and motivation to help all the students, and make our school a better place. Currently, our SRC team is working on many issues, such as enhancing the toilets, building bike sheds in our school, working on the renewal of canteen contract, and improving locker security. People might also have noticed posters around the school with all the clubs on them, we have put these up to better assist students in finding a club suitable for their tastes. Meanwhile, we have also put up a physical ‘Suggestion Box’ which is currently placed in front of the Art Room.

If people have any thoughts, suggestions, or concerns, please feel free to write them down and put them in the Suggestion Box! We will check on it regularly. Or people can just speak straight to us—-we would love to hear from you!

Thank you everyone, have a great day!
