Performing Arts

Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord! Give thanks to God for everything! Ephesians 5:19

Instrumental lessons are now in full flight, and it is not unusual to hear a vocalist singing scales, while the sounds of a cello and a flute also waft down the passageway of the BPAC.

Ensembles are now fully focused on preparing for Open Day and most of our Junior and Senior ensembles and choirs will be featured in two short concerts on the day. The Junior Vocal Ensemble will debut at one of these concerts, as well as performing in the Junior School building. The Seraphim Choir are also rehearsing for the Junior School’s Easter Chapel and the Senior Vocal Ensemble will feature at the school’s ANZAC service in the first week of Term 2. The boys of this ensemble will also feature in an a cappella tribute to the fallen soldiers of world conflicts.

Amelia McLeod (6H) featured this week in the Junior School’s Chapel service, playing Ballad on the violin. Amelia is one of our Junior School’s Performing Arts Captains and was accompanied by Mr Jeffrey Clarke.

Mattias Talpan, one of our School Captains and the Senior School Music Captain, amazed those who attended the recent School at Work with his rendition of Melodie (Tchaikowsky) on the violin. Played totally from memory, this performance was accompanied by Mr Aaron Chan.

Performing Arts classes in the Junior School focus on Music, Drama and Dance. Year 5 have been writing scripts that feature three different radio programs and what it would sound like if someone kept changing the channels. There certainly was much laughter as they performed these scripts to their peers. Year 6 have written and performed their own group compositions on tuned percussion instruments, and Year 4 are mastering the skill of mime. Of course, if you pass by on a day when Year 3 or 4 have Performing Arts, you would no doubt be drawn in by the dulcet tones of their recorder playing. You might even feel like joining in by dancing along to a tango!
