ART SMOCKS

This year each student will need their own art smock.  Could you please check that your child has one. Please organise one if they have not got one, or their old one does not fity anymore.  You don't necessarily need a bought one, as an old shirt that fits over their uniform is acceptable.  If you need help providing an art smock please email me at

SWAP NEWS

SWAP specialist subject stands for Student Wellbeing and Performing Arts. We learn about our social and emotional learning through role plays, games and drama.

Our focus for Term 1 is on the concept of gratitude. We are learning to understand that by practicing gratitude we focus on what we do have and not what we don’t have. The seniors have learnt that by practicing gratitude, research has shown it can lead to increased happiness, better sleep and health and stronger relationships.

We also learnt that it is enough to just think about these things but we need to actively practice gratitude by writing down we are grateful for each day or by saying thank you to others.

The seniors were asked to identify the people, places, possessions and experiences that they are most grateful for. Here’s what some of you had to say:

I am grateful for my dog, my school, my squishmallows, learning, Minecraft, Roblox and my chrome book.  Georgia

I am grateful for family, friends, cousins, grapes, watermelon, mango and Wonderland. Alana

I am grateful for my friends and family, education, my house, food and technology. Christen.

I am grateful for the police, teachers, ambulance, firefighters, nurses, doctors, parents, grandparents, ipad, bed, toys, pet bird, house, zoo, race swimming centre, Gold coast, Canberra, Thredbo, Movie World, Sea World, Snow, Pets and 2 story house. Sara

Who do I appreciate?

Doctors, nurses, paramedics, surgeons, police, firefighters along with everyone else on the Frontline.

What material possessions am I grateful for?

My glasses, bed, school bag and the food I get to eat.

What am I grateful for about my surrounding/house/neighbourhood, city etc?

My house, school and country. Christa

We are also learning about Stress Management this term. The children are learning about what stress is, how does our body tell us we are stressed and what strategies can help us feel better when we are stressed. The juniors played a game called the “Slow motion controller game” where they had to copy the slow movements and actions of the leader. Students worked collaboratively in the self control game and they used the game to help them talk about the place of quiet time in helping them cope with stress. We have also learnt about the value of enthusiasm and the juniors practiced some role plays to show what enthusiasm looks like.

This week the focus was volleystars, which is an amended form of volleyball. A great time was had by all and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the senior staff for their support.

Parents will need to give permission and complete a bicycle and helmet safety check and return it to your child’s home group teacher as soon as possible.
