Energy Efficiency

The past week, the Unit 1 & 2 Physics class has been running experiments to test the energy efficiency of housing. Using a heat lamp to act as the sun, my group has been testing the effectiveness of Low-E and grey tinted glass to keep a house cool in summer.

We set up a temperature probe inside the model house, and shone the light onto the surface we were testing. Using a logger, we recorded the change in temperature over a set amount of time. These experiments tie in to our topic of thermodynamics and the earths climate, and have been a great opportunity to work together in a group on a real application of what we have been learning in class.

Luna Park Physics day

On Wednesday 9 March, Ms Gilbert’s year 12 Physics class went on an excursion to Luna Park to study the circular motion that affects the rides and attractions there.

It was a wonderful day, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and gained some insightful information about the rides and also it helped visualise some of the content being taught.

Thank you to our laboratory technician Suzanne Thornley who accompanied us and Jane Garrow for driving the bus.
