Kangourou de Maths

March is always a busy time in our French school calendar, not least because the French Film Festival is upon us (film tips below), but also as we gather to celebrate Francophonie Week and the diversity of French language across the world.

In our French Partial Immersion and French Binational classes all students will take part in the Kangourou de Maths contest on the 17th of March as part of their regular classes.  This international maths competition in French allows us to celebrate playing with the language and using logic to solve increasingly challenging maths situations.  We are very excited to hold this annual competition as being good at Maths is not the only key aspect, often our best performers shine through their methodological approach to risk assessment combined with solid problem-solving skills.  If you are keen to have a go at it yourself and join an unofficial parents/guardians amateur category, last year’s subjects are available on the Math Kang website.  Take your pen and paper out and get ready for the challenge!

We follow with another milestone - ‘la semaine de la presse et des médias’ when we will be looking at how important strong and reliable press is and explore some of the French publications we subscribe to.

With a new year also comes the time to renew the participants in our French Specialist program governance group.  If your child is part of either French Specialist programs, French Binational or French Partial Immersion programs, you may wish to nominate to take part in the dedicated School Council Subcommittee that meets once a term and reports to School Council.

Something French to consider - Alliance Française French Film festival is on

Kicking off for a month is the French Film Festival, back in its full glory!  Once again, the biggest French film festival outside France returns with a wide selection of new French films and an amazing cinematic experience!

With several Australian premieres and films from comedy to drama, thrillers or documentary, everyone should be able to find the right match for a different experience of the French language.  Our first recommendations:  go with the family movies such as Fly me Away and the latest instalment of Le petit Nicolas.  Do not miss the fantastic documentary, The Velvet Queen.

A special treat this year to cheer up the whole family is Big Bad Fox and Other Tales.  This animation made the headlines at the Annecy Animation Film Festival.  A ne pas manquer.
